Find The Way To Control Your Emotions With Amit Sihra

Find The Way To Control Your Emotions With Amit Sihra

This week, Mystic Mag had the opportunity to interview Amit Sihra from Urban Reiki. We talked about his beginnings, how his career developed, and what he loves most about his profession.

When did you first know that Reiki was your calling and how did it come about?

I was seeing a girl that I really liked in 2014, and we weren’t really a couple, just getting to know each other. She said to me after a month that she didn’t want to pursue things any further, which left me heart broken. I was completely taken aback by the way it was making me feel, I’d only been seeing her for a month and not even held her hand. So why was I feeling like this? The pain continued for week’s and I just couldn’t figure out why, so I decided to go and see a clairvoyant about it as I needed some spiritual guidance as to what was going on. When I arrived to speak with the clairvoyant (who I just Googled randomly), she spoke about my heart break for 5 minutes and then started telling me about what she believed my calling in life is (destiny), which is to become a healer. I’d been told this by various people for about 15 years, but it really hit home when she said it to me. I suppose I needed to go through the heartache just to hear this message. I knew what spiritual healing was, but I was being told about Reiki healing, which I knew nothing about, so I came home and immediately Googled Reiki and that is where my journey began.

What services do you offer?

At an early age I was exposed to many complicated family issues that affected my mind and body. In my late twenties I was struggling with anger management issues. I would lose my temper quickly and snap at those I loved the most. I would jump the gun on issues at work, and have to apologize later because I didn’t listen properly. And the more frustration I felt at work, the more I would snap at my family. It felt like a never ending cycle. In my early thirties I discovered meditation, and later reiki, and they both changed my life. I now use the techniques I’ve used to calm myself down, address my triggers, and control my anger to help others.

I run a 6 week course which is completely tailored around the person’s specific trigger points and goals and in addition to our scheduled training sessions we have weekly calls to keep them on track. During our work together we also incorporate reiki sessions. When reiki is administered it puts the mind and body into a relaxed state for several hours. This sets off our bodies natural ability to heal, and will allow them to work more positively in creating new habits. Plus, we’ll have an extra session together 4 weeks after completing the course to see how you’re progressing, and formulate a plan for continuing to work on themselves.

I also run meditation classes which are solely for teaching people how to meditate.

How can Mediation and Reiki help a person control their anger?

The process of learning to meditate involves knowing how to move your awareness, then to concentrate on the ONE thought and keep it there. For example, if your angry, you need to acknowledge anger, then move your awareness to a positive area of the brain (happy, empathic, humble etc) and keep it there, so you don’t become angry again within a few seconds. If you focus your energy on something negative that is what will grow in your life. If you focus on something positive then that is what will grow in your life. Hence why l use the techniques of learning how to meditate in my courses, so that we create a manual for them to move away from anger. The Reiki element allows the person to relax and allows them to create habits, which manifests in controlling their anger.

What can a person expect from your sessions?

We always begin the first session with a consultation, which involves understanding what they are struggling with, the triggers, and an outline of how we’re going to tackle it. We then go onto learning the process of meditation for 30 minutes per session. I then  administer Reiki to them (via Zoom call or in person) for another 30 minutes. After which I set out the objectives for the week and give a step by step process on how to achieve this. It’s designed so that it can just be incorporated into your life rather than adding an extra task into your daily routine. During or after the session’s people do get emotional and can have aha moments, which is natural and apart of the process.

Every session is different as we all have very different reasons to why we can’t control our anger. But the end result is that they will be in a better place to not only control anger but any emotion.

What is the most important detail in maintaining a relationship of mutual trust with clients?

When I was training to become a Reiki practitioner, we were told that all our paperwork must be locked away and kept safe (a bit like doctors used to do when they used nothing but paper). Nowadays everything is digital so I’ve evolved to keeping any confidential information in an external hard drive which is encrypted, so that if it is ever stolen, no-one can get access to it. Again similar to doctors, I have sworn an oath to keep all details regarding my clients discussions absolutely confidential unless I believe their lives are in danger, at which point I will only contact a doctor or the police.

What is the best part of your job?

When a person has started to make progress in what they have set out to achieve. Even if it’s a tiny bit, it’s the best feeling knowing that you’re a part of their journey.
