Angie Banicki’s inspiring shift from entertainment PR to tarot reading unfolds in her recent interview with MysticMag, a platform dedicated to spiritual insights.
What started as a lighthearted hobby—swapping tarot readings for a glass of wine at the Chateau—blossomed into a soulful practice infused with her unique touch: channeling guidance through music. Using a Spotify playlist of over 1,600 songs, Banicki crafts personalized readings that resonate deeply, setting her apart in the tarot world.
Her approach, grounded in intuition and openness, empowers clients to find clarity and embrace personal growth through the cards.
How did you transition from entertainment PR to tarot reading?
My transition was very subtle. I started reading tarot for fun. I actually practiced a lot at the Chateau, which I visited just this past weekend. I was telling the owner there that I used to tell people, ‘Buy me a glass of wine, and I’ll read your cards,’ as a way to practice. I never planned for it to become a business, but eventually, it did.
Over time, I started feeling less connected to my old PR work; I just didn’t enjoy it as much anymore. Tarot reading felt like it fed my soul.
What makes your tarot readings unique compared to traditional approaches?
One thing I hear often is that people don’t know anyone else who does this: I channel through music. I have a playlist on Spotify with over 1,600 songs, and during the reading, I hit shuffle. At the end of the session, songs will play that have special meaning for the person I’m reading for.
They then receive a playlist to listen to, which helps them connect with any additional messages. I’d say that’s the most unique aspect of my approach. As tarot reading becomes more popular and mainstream, I still aim to let each reading evolve organically for each individual. I channel the guides or whatever information comes through, allowing it to guide the reading. But the music is definitely the most distinct part of my practice.
How do you blend astrology, intuition, and tarot in your sessions?
I don’t follow a set formula, and I think many people who do similar sessions would probably say the same. I’m really interested in astrology, so I like to stay aware of what’s happening with the planets. Sometimes, I’ll pick up specific things related to certain signs, which come into play.
The cards play a big role—they help me get grounded. Then, my intuition takes over. I’m just listening, both to what I’m hearing in my mind and what I’m picking up from the person I’m reading for. That helps guide the session. There’s no set approach—sometimes I feel deeply connected to the cards, while other times I barely use them and rely mostly on what I’m feeling and hearing. It all depends on the energy present in the moment, or what I’m sensing from the person.
What is the most surprising insight a client has gained from your readings?
One thing that stands out is a situation that happened about nine months before COVID. I was doing a reading for a client who was planning a tour in Asia. Every time we’d go over her plans, the cards kept telling me, ‘Are you sure you’re going to Asia? I don’t think it’s showing up.’ She would get frustrated, asking me what she should do, and I’d tell her, ‘Just plan your tour, but I don’t think you’re going.’ She’d laugh it off, but I kept sensing that something was off.
Then, COVID hit, and she was supposed to go on tour just a week or two later. She got the call right away, saying the tour was canceled. She called me and said, ‘You’ve been telling me this over and over!’ I didn’t predict the pandemic, but I just kept getting the feeling that her tour wasn’t going to happen.
How can someone use tarot as a tool for personal growth and decision-making?
I love tarot because it opens our minds to new possibilities and helps us understand ourselves better. A lot of friends and clients tell me they’re scared of pulling a ‘bad’ card, thinking it will worry them. But what I’ve learned is that sometimes when a challenging card comes up, it signals significant growth. For me, tarot is about knowledge and empowerment. You might pull a card asking for guidance, and sometimes it will confirm what you already wanted to do—like deciding to go to a dinner. But other times, the cards may give you advice you’re not ready to hear, and you might choose to ignore it. The cards offer a way to think about things, but ultimately, it’s up to you. What do you truly want?
The real beauty comes when you’re torn between decisions, and the cards provide clarity. For example, the cards might show you that it’s better not to go to that dinner you were dreading, and you realize that’s exactly what you wanted. Tarot becomes a helpful tool for growth and decision-making. It can also deepen your meditation practice, helping you reflect on what the cards are trying to teach you and supporting your mindset throughout the day.
What advice do you have for those new to tarot and intuitive guidance?
Be easy on yourself. When I started, it was all for fun, with no pressure. I wasn’t thinking, ‘Let me tell you everything.’ It was more like, ‘Let’s see what the cards have to say.’ I had fun with it, and I think once you remove the pressure, that’s when the magic happens. When you approach it with a sense of curiosity, rather than fear or anxiety, the cards will reflect that. It’s a fun way to practice with friends, too. When you approach it with the mindset of seeking guidance, there’s much less pressure.
Another important point is that when you’re learning, sometimes the cards won’t answer your question directly. Instead, they’ll tell you what you need to hear in that moment. The key is to be open to whatever the cards have to offer, even if it’s not exactly what you expected.
