For over three decades, Caradie James has been a guiding force in the field of holistic mental health, blending science and soul to help people reclaim their lives. With advanced diplomas in Clinical Hypnotherapy, Counselling Psychology, and Emotional Freedom Therapy, Caradie is far more than a therapist—she is a catalyst for deep, lasting change. Working with clients across London and Swansea, she brings together hypnotherapy, counselling, Reiki, and energy psychology in a uniquely intuitive way. A registered member of the General Hypnotherapy Standards Council and The Healing Trust, Caradie’s approach is as grounded in professional excellence as it is in her extraordinary ability to connect, heal, and transform. In this conversation with Mystic Mag, she opens up about her philosophy, methods, and why true healing often begins where science meets energy.
Your work blends Clinical Hypnotherapy, Counselling Psychology, EFT, and Reiki—how do you intuitively decide which modality to lead with in a session?
I integrate everything into one session. During the first 20 minutes of the session, I listen and talk with the client. Some people don’t want to talk much, but that’s rare. Most people do talk, and after that, I do some Emotional Freedom Therapy, also known as tapping, which teaches you a lot. You can learn so much just by touching the body and feeling the emotions that are held there—the blocked energy, and so on. It calms the person down.
Then I begin the hypnosis part of the session. While I’m doing the induction—the beginning phase of the hypnosis—I hold the client’s head from behind and give Reiki healing. I then move around to do more healing on the heart centre, while guiding them to relax their body. After that, I move to the knees and then the feet, so they are experiencing healing through me while I’m talking and helping them relax.
After that I sit down, and the rest of the session is guided by other beings. I work with angels and other spiritual guides. Sometimes I’m guided to say something specific. Other times, I simply look at the person and receive a clear message—not always something to say, but something that helps me to unravel the issue they came with.
So, most of the time, all of this happens within a single session.
With over 30 years of experience, how have you seen the public perception of hypnotherapy and energy healing evolve in the UK?
That’s a very interesting question. I imagine it varies from culture to culture. In the UK right now, we have a National Health System that’s in complete disarray. You may well have heard about it, especially as a journalist—it’s honestly a complete mess.
Just 15 minutes down the road from me is the worst hospital in Britain for waiting times. That’s not just my opinion; it’s been reported in all the national papers. People are literally dying outside hospitals. It’s a terrible situation.
As a result, people who might never have considered alternative therapy are now having to look for other answers. It’s just a very tough situation for most. I often see clients who’ve already been to their GP (that’s what we call a doctor here), and all the GP could do was give them tablets. Three-quarters of my clients come to me already on medication for anxiety, depression, or other issues—often medications they shouldn’t be on.
So yes, things are certainly evolving, but here it’s happening more out of necessity. People come to someone like me as a last resort, because they feel they have no other option.
That said, I see this field expanding rapidly over the next ten years. The whole world is in distress. People are far more anxious. Lockdown caused a huge rise in anxiety here, and I’m sure it did where you are too. I work with people who started drinking too much during lockdown, people dealing with anxiety, and many children who were kept out of school and now have chronic emotional issues that likely wouldn’t exist if lockdown hadn’t happened. It triggered a lot.
So, I truly hope—and believe—that natural healing will grow tremendously in the coming years. Of course, if you break your leg, you should absolutely go to a hospital. But for mental health and many chronic pain issues, natural healing is far preferable, in my opinion.
What type of services do you offer?
I have an alcohol programme, and I do a lot of smoking cessation work. I also work with many anxiety-related issues and stress-related illnesses, as well as phobias—which are, of course, anxiety-based. In my opinion, most issues are rooted in anxiety.
These days, we have all these fancy labels for various conditions—terms that didn’t exist when I was younger. In my view, it all comes down to anxiety expressed in various forms.
I offer Zoom sessions too. In a typical session, I start with some angelic guidance, then I guide the person to tap on themselves using Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT). After that, I lead them through a complete hypnosis session.
Amazingly, it works very well—even remotely—because you can still tune into a person’s energy. That might not have been so easy 50 years ago, but today, we’re able to tune in and send healing to anyone, no matter where they are.
Pain management is a critical part of your offering. Can you walk us through a typical session where hypnosis is used to alleviate chronic pain?
Chronic pain is generally linked to a need to release anger. In my experience, almost everyone who suffers from chronic pain—not necessarily acute pain, but chronic—carries an inner rage that needs to be dissolved.
Sometimes I’ll discuss this with the person, but often I don’t, because people don’t always want to hear it. It’s not easy for someone to accept, “I’m holding a lot of anger toward my father, and that’s why my lower back is hurting.” So, I do what I can in the way that feels most helpful.
It’s fascinating how it all works. I’m currently working with a woman on Zoom who has MS. She’s housebound at the moment, but she’s a remarkable woman. I believe she will be 90% healed because she’s willing to do the work. I can speak to her very clearly—explaining, “This is coming from that”—and she receives it. It’s very easy to read her energy, and she will be fine.
Most people take much longer to reach that level of healing. Especially with conditions like MS, many people—she’s 60 now—may not be able to make such a transformation. And that’s very sad. But I believe it is totally possible.
People like us—you seem very open and receptive—are here to catalyse enormous change in others. I truly believe that almost anything can be transformed. Even cancer. Just look at someone like Louise Hay. Cancer can be healed. It’s possible. It often stems from deep rage and unresolved past hurt.
When I’m working with chronic pain, I’m really working with the emotional root—particularly anger. What clients choose to do with that information is ultimately their choice.
As someone integrating traditional psychology with energy healing, how do you stay grounded and maintain professional boundaries in emotionally intense sessions?
The most important things to me—are being spiritually connected and connected to nature. That’s the true balance of life. It’s also important to stay intellectually stimulated, of course, but at the core, I live a spiritual life. I have a prayer practice, and I’m surrounded by beautiful nature. That’s why I chose to live in this part of the world.
I walk, I meditate, and I do all these grounding practices. And if someone is sitting in front of me and having a difficult moment, I’m quietly talking to the angels. They’ll tell me, “Just wait a minute, allow this person to go through what they’re going through, and everything will be fine.”
It’s really, really beautiful. Thank you for allowing me to share this with you and thank you for all your thoughtful questions. Since you’ve finished asking, I’ll just add one more thing—something I think is important to highlight.
Everything, in the end, is about love. That may sound simplistic, but it’s the absolute truth. And the only path to love is through forgiveness. I believe that my role as a healer is to guide people toward forgiveness. That’s really it. You can dress it up with complex language, diagnoses, or spiritual terminology, but at the core, it all comes down to helping someone forgive. If you can help a person reach that place, you’ve done your job.
