Who is Kyle Hoobin? What is your story and background?

Who am I? That’s the most important question, isn’t it? Well, I can honestly say that after 42 years of being on the planet that I finally don’t know anymore (and what a wonderful thing that is). As far as the story of ‘me’ goes (Kyle the character), that began around the age of 5 and culminated in an enlightenment experience at the age of 20 after a long battle with depression (due to a trauma-based self-perception comprised mainly of low self-worth).

Toward the end of my teens, I began searching intensely for a way to end the internal struggle I had been experiencing for the majority of my life and so I began reading every book in the self-help section at the bookstore in the hopes of finding some mystical wisdom that would solve all of my problems and make my pain go away. Unfortunately, after a few years of trying every trick in the book(s), I reached a point where I realized that I couldn’t go on any longer and that nothing I tried was ever going to work. When my 20th birthday arrived, my interior world was a chaotic tornado of unsolvable suffering. It felt as if my life could no longer be salvaged and so I felt the only option left was to consciously die into the present moment continuously (moment to moment) for the rest of my life. Essentially I was forced to surrender EVERYTHING about who I thought I was and completely, permanently, give up on any notion of there being a future so that my past could be permanently dropped as well.

It was during this shift into total surrender that enlightenment happened. I can even pinpoint the moment when this transformation of consciousness took place. It was the middle of April 2002, and I was starting my first day of work at a new summer job. As I was handed a bucket and a ladder and told to carry them up to the top of a hill, something inside of me just said “I give up” in a very final, irreversible way. By the time I got to the top of the hill, it was as though I had entered an entirely different reality. I looked to my left and the first thing I noticed was a tree that seemed to be glowing with an intelligent presence. My mind was baffled but my chest was filling with joy, wonder, love, and most importantly a lightness that I hadn’t experienced for a very very long time. I continued looking around and realized that everything was glowing with this intelligent presence; the buildings, the grass, the birds, the cars driving by, even the burly tattoo-covered men I was working with. Eventually, I realized that something must have fundamentally shifted in me as a result of completely giving up. It was profound and remains my experience even to this day. Ever since that day, it’s been a process of going deeper into this experience of presence and integrating the internal freedom of no-mind with an external world that, for the most part, is completely identified with mind.

What is your approach to hypnosis and what issues can people hope to fix with your assistance?

Hypnosis is essentially the process that enables a human being to identify with the world around them and thus create a mind-made identity based on that world. In order for hypnosis to work, only two key ingredients are needed: total trust in an external authority and total acceptance of the suggestions given by that authority. This is why when you first entered the world, you became hypnotized; your mind-made reality formed itself around the suggestions given to you by your environment; an environment that you had no choice but to completely trust in. Almost all human beings are currently in a state of hypnosis because almost all human beings are identified with their mind-made realities.

In my work, I use the hypnotic process to essentially ‘de-hypnotize’ people so that they can awaken to their liberated true nature which lies beneath their suffering-based mind-made reality. Rather than trying to help people resolve specific unhelpful habits and beliefs with hypnosis, I like to focus on the root cause of ALL unhelpful habits and beliefs which is the fundamental over-identification with the body and mind (identification with the character known as ‘me’). Once that fundamental over-identification is addressed and starts to dissolve, all other unhelpful habits that have come from that start to dissolve on their own as a byproduct.

Your YouTube channel showcases interviews and hypnosis sessions with those who’ve had near-death experiences, why are you interested in the near-death experience?

I’ve always enjoyed listening to those who’ve had near-death experiences (who’ve temporarily died and left their physical bodies) because they usually come back after the experience very humbled and with the realization that the identity they thought they were (their mind-made identity) was just a hypnotic illusion. So I thought it would be fun to create a podcast series where I give viewers the opportunity to hear NDE-er’s stories and also witness in real-time the freedom that one experiences through making contact with the dis-identified and dis-embodied state of consciousness.

What is your favorite part of your profession?

I love to use the gifts that life has given me (self-inquiry and hypnosis) and to see how those gifts are ultimately in place to help others come into a state of true freedom in their lives. Witnessing others shift into freedom amplifies the freedom that I reside in.

You are also an author. What books have you written and what are they about?

I’ve written several books that focus on self-inquiry (inquiring into the nature of what we call the ‘self’). My most recent books are The Method and The Moment of Your Death. The Method is essentially a 5-step self-inquiry process for those who are tired of settling for nice-sounding spiritual beliefs and are ready for true spiritual realization (enlightenment) through their own direct experience of life. Its format is clear and direct and I allotted the second half of the book to questions and answers so that the message could be understood by anyone regardless of what direction and background they’re coming from. The Moment of Your Death was written to provoke and inspire others to turn their lives into a living science experiment so that they could experience a direct realization of the ultimate truth.
