There are no "mistakes" just "stepping-stones - teZa Lord

TeZa Lord is a multi-talented individual, encompassing the roles of an author, artist, and spirit activist. Throughout her life’s diverse experiences, she has explored various paths, from political science to art, from sailing the Caribbean to owning a restaurant. However, it was her ability to fly in her dreams that led her to discover her true calling. Having documented her own journey through art, TeZa now dedicates herself to uplifting others and helping them find their own paths to self-discovery and empowerment. MysticMag finds out more.

Your journey seems incredibly diverse and adventurous, with experiences ranging from studying political science to owning a restaurant and sailing the Caribbean. How have these varied experiences contributed to your path as an author, artist, and spirit activist?

Everything we do in life adds up. There are no “mistakes” just “stepping-stones.” So my diverse background and many ways of interacting with the world have all come together in various ways. With my art, with my writing, and as a more rounded person, every single endeavor of mine from botanical illustrator to garden designer, from inter-island shipping entrepreneur to household yogi with husband and kids–has made me the spiritual powerhouse (it feels like!) I am today.

Could you share more about your exploration and documentation of your personal journey through art-making? How has art played a role in your own upliftment and transformation?

Art has always intrigued me, as has writing, as has adventuring, as has learning how to stop the noise in my head through meditation and yogic practices. As a young art student I realized (after realizing pursuing political science, which was my major in university where I only lasted a year) the freeing the restraints I’d acquired as a result of a so-called “Normal Upbringing” in America, to be able to create Original Ideas–was my passion. Before a certain point in my spiritual and emotional development I explored the dark side of my existence. Once I committed to living from a higher perspective (getting sober, drug and alcohol free, in my case) I took all my earlier art work to the dump. Since this mid-point in my art career I have imbued positive vibes, prayer, and uplifting themes in my creative work. But … to get to this place I had to explore the caverns of my inner darkness.

As a spirit activist, what does it mean to you to help others uplift themselves? How do you integrate spiritual practices and principles into your work to support personal growth and empowerment?

As a spirit activist I focus entirely on positive things. I do not contribute to any argument, however small or large, in lieu of sowing positive alternatives. To me there are entirely too many who indulge in nit-picking whining, instead of fostering creative solutions. That’s why my activism is about cultivating the Spirit both in myself and as much as I can, to be an example for others. I do this however I can, but mainly by posting on several platforms and creating the ZLORD podcast with my husband of 30+ years, and creating Mind-Stillers, short guided meditation videos on my YouTube channel. The spiritual practice of awareness, following breath, acknowledging the balance of mind-body-spirit is how I allow creation to flow from me. Not too much thinking in my studio! But of course, sometimes one must choose between charcoal and paint, for instance.

With your background in studying political science and creating art related to Amazonian divination plants, how do you navigate the intersection between art, spirituality, and social or environmental activism in your work?

The intersection of (not between) art, spirituality, and environmentalism (I”m not interested in social constructs, thank you very much) is one of easeful joy. I invite my inner muse to direct my action. I take delight in discovering what I create as much as the next person. I have no agenda, and my only goal is to spread Love, beginning with aligning one’s own life with everything else in existence. We are ALL ONE. There is no other reality for me. That is my sole objective as a creative person who arts and writes.

As an author, artist, and spirit activist, what message or themes do you aim to convey through your creations and teachings? How do you hope to inspire and impact others through your work?

My theme is how best to raise the energy vibration of Love on this planet, thereby healing individuals and any other challenges. I do this by thought, deed, lifestyle, both in making decisions to direct my life force in certain areas as well as to avoid the pitfalls of negativities. Including negative thinking. Everything we do/say/think adds up. It took me half my life to realize this. Helping others to wrap their head/mind around this simple fact is my goal presently.
