When did you first know that Sound Healing was your calling and how did it come about?

Two ways:

  • As a professional recording engineer, I saw the magic coming across from professional musicians, above and beyond their musical performance.  I wanted to figure out how to reproduce that magic at will.  I then discovered many sound healers and added them to our Recording program at the time.  Then, 20 years ago we added on the Sound Healing classes.
  • I created a Virtual Reality system to help explain mixing, where you can see sounds floating between the speakers right where they are in the audio mix.  In surround sound, you can see the sounds floating around the room and place them where you like with a dataglove.  You can even throw sounds and bounce them off the walls.

I expanded it so you can see a VR image of the inside of the body with all organs and medical systems.  You can then place images of sounds anywhere in the body and feel it vibrating in that part of the body while laying on a Sound Table with subwoofers in the table.

I thought that if I’m going to put sounds in different organs I should learn all about how sound works on the body so I don’t blow up any organs.

What exactly is Sound Healing?

Sound Healing, through various techniques and technologies, is the educated and conscious use of the energy of sound to reach identified goals and promote wellness in the human system – including the expansion of consciousness. Sound Healing is founded on the premise that all matter is vibrating at specific frequencies. Science has proven that sound, or vibration, has a strong impact on substance. For example, the study of Cymatics has shown how sound creates geometric patterns in matter. Dr. Emoto has proven that sound changes the molecular structure of water. However, more importantly, sound changes consciousness. Many ancient civilizations and modern indigenous cultures have used sound to heal and access higher levels of consciousness for thousands of years.

There are a wide range of techniques that utilize sound as a tool for change. The most common and basic use of sound is for meditation and relaxation. Chanting, toning, and overtone singing are some of the most powerful methods for resonating sound throughout the body. The use of natural sounds and natural instruments, such as crystal bowls and tuning forks, have specific healing frequencies and harmonics. Drumming and rhythm are now used by corporations to release stress and build team consciousness. Shamanic drumming takes people into altered states of consciousness. Sound is now being used by clinical psychologists to help children with certain learning disabilities. Binaural beat frequencies are used to entrain people into very specific states of consciousness. Sound is used to alter brainwave states to help people with sleep disorders and facilitate creative expression. Listening to one’s own root frequency enables an individual to create a more centered and grounded awareness within their life. Perhaps most exciting is cutting-edge research that shows how sound might be used to disintegrate diseases such as cancer.

How can sound affect us and where does its healing trait come from?

The most basic aspect of sound is stable consistent vibrations instead of chaotic vibrations.  The chaotic vibrations are like fear, anxiety, stress, and pain.  The stable vibrations are the vowels, sound healing instruments, and even tones from electronic signal generators.  The stable vibrations overcome the chaotic vibrations creating a healthy coherent state.  When the body is healthy, every cell and organ is vibrating consistently at its own natural frequency.  When we use consistent vibrations, especially at the body’s own natural frequency, we can entrain it back into its healthy state.  This works at all levels: physically, mentally, emotionally, and Spiritually. Obviously, these areas often overlap. An emotional release can make a physical pain go away, or a Spiritual breakthrough can clear the mind like never before.

Physical Healing and Pain Relief
Sound can also be used to get rid of the pain. Pain receptors can only handle so much information, so when you fill them up with the sound, they can no longer transmit pain impulses. In the classes, we also teach a technique where you can make the sound of pain, and the pain goes away in just about every case.

Tuning forks are also extremely effective for relieving pain. The Voice can also be incredibly effective when used right on the body. In the classes, we teach how to use both tuning forks and the voice right on the body.

Emotional Healing and Release
Most of the lower emotions are associated with sounds that are really irritating, such as pessimism, frustration, irritation, impatience, overwhelm, disappointment, doubt, worry, blame, discouragement, anger, revenge, hatred, rage, jealousy, insecurity, guilt, unworthiness, fear, grief, depression, despair, and powerlessness. These are distorted or inconsistent sounds, and they break down your physical body.

On the other hand, the sounds associated with higher emotions support your health, such as contentment, hopefulness, optimism, positive expectation, belief, enthusiasm, eagerness, happiness, passion, joy, appreciation, empowerment, freedom, and love. They actually nurture the beating of your heart and your nervous system. The sounds associated with these emotions are consistent and quite pure tones. Vowel sounds resonate with these types of energies the best. Vowels create consistent and pure tones.

Mentally – Brainwave Entrainment
There has been extensive clinical research clearly proving that when we listen to frequencies within the range of a brainwave (beta, alpha, theta, and delta) our brain will be entrained into that frequency within a few minutes. “Binaural beats” are frequencies that can be created with sound within the frequency range of the brain. We can use these frequencies to help put us into various brainwave states, which can help with a variety of issues including ADD, ADHD, post-traumatic stress, learning disabilities, sleep disorders, enhancing mental clarity, memory, and creativity. When we listen on headphones these frequencies also synchronize the left and right brain, which is our optimal state.

Spiritual Healing, Awakening, and Reconnection
Most people think of Spiritual healing as a process whereby we simply clear out negative emotions, deep emotional issues, and negative belief systems – so we can more clearly resonate with love and light.  Sound can also be used to entrain us into harmony and a direct connection to Spirit, our Soul, and Source.  When you make the sound of these higher emotions it creates a stronger resonant field in your body and sends it out to the whole planet.
