In this MysticMag interview, we speak with a retired oral surgeon turned hypnotherapist, Dr. Funda Kahn from Inner Child Connection. She talks about how she started using hypnosis, the Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), and the difference between working with adults and working with children. She also has a strong message for all our readers. Find out more below.
Can you please share a few details about yourself and your professional background with our readers?
I’m a retired oral surgeon with many years of experience operating with my husband. I graduated from a dental school in Istanbul, and during my time as a surgeon, I discovered the benefits of hypnosis in calming patients and regulating their blood pressure, pulse rate, and emotional state. I also found that hypnosis helped speed up healing time and was successful in both pre- and post-operative care.
As I continued to explore hypnosis, I discovered additional modalities like, parts therapy, body-mind connection, energy psychology, healing energy of colors, EFT, chakra healing, and healing with breath, including Holographic Memory Resolution (HMR), which I now practice exclusively. HMR is a gentle and effective technique that helps release past traumas, particularly those from childhood.

How does the Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) work?
EFT, or Emotional Freedom Technique, is a therapeutic approach that involves tapping on specific acupuncture points on the body to reduce psychological distress and promote emotional well-being. According to proponents of EFT, negative emotions and psychological distress are caused by disruptions in the body’s energy system. By tapping on specific acupuncture points on the body while focusing on a specific emotional issue, the body’s energy system is said to be rebalanced and the negative emotions are released.
A 2016 meta-analysis of 20 randomized controlled trials found that EFT was effective in reducing symptoms of anxiety, depression, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
The underlying mechanisms of EFT are still not well understood, but some researchers have proposed that it may work by activating the body’s parasympathetic nervous system, which is responsible for the “rest and digest” response that helps to reduce stress and promote relaxation. Others have suggested that EFT may work by disrupting the neural pathways associated with negative emotions and replacing them with positive ones.
How does hypnosis actually work and what can a person expect from a session with you?
Hypnosis is a state of heightened suggestibility and relaxation, often induced by a hypnotist using verbal cues and imagery. In this state, the individual may be more open to suggestions and able to access unconscious thoughts and memories, which can be used for therapeutic purposes.
Hypnosis works by relaxing the body and slowly moving from beta to alpha, theta, and delta brain waves. It can be used for various purposes, such as changing belief systems and resolving trauma. Self-hypnosis and sleep hypnosis are also taught to clients for daily use.
The main purpose of hypnosis is to help patients release and let go of whatever issues they are dealing with. This can result in the patient feeling lighter, happier, and safer after the session. The ultimate goal is to leave the patient with hope and a sense of progress. The specifics of each session will depend on the issues being addressed.
Is there a difference between working with adults and working with children?
Children respond differently to hypnosis compared to adults because they don’t have a strong ego or consciousness yet. They are more receptive to new ideas and can learn quickly. They are also more likely to follow through with exercises given after the session. Adults, on the other hand, tend to build resistance over the years, making it harder to break through their belief systems. Children’s literal nature and openness make them heal faster in hypnotherapy.
Do you have any special messages for your readers?
The main message to my reader is that anyone is capable of healing themselves mentally, emotionally, and physically, regardless of the challenges they face. The belief is grounded in personal experience, having overcome numerous obstacles, and achieving personal healing. I am passionate about sharing my knowledge and experiences with others and believe that everyone has the power to manifest their desires. The key to this healing process is to find one’s inner healer and develop a strong mind-body connection. I am convinced that everyone can heal themselves, but it requires effort and dedication on their part.
