Can you share a defining moment in your career that led you to specialize in Brainspotting therapy and Integrative Medicine?

As far as Brainspotting, I received a business card from another therapist.  I was looking at the card a few months later and saw Brainspotting.  When I looked up what it was about, it piqued my interest.  When I went to the training and experienced it personally, it was amazing.  It soon became my primary modality as healing is so much quicker and deeper than through talk.  Also, the way it honors the client’s nervous system and allows it to lead the process resonated with me.  As an Indigenous clinician I really noticed how it could be administered in a decolonizing and anti oppressive way.  I was able to work through preverbal trauma beyond my conscious awareness and to help my clients to do so as well.  They also began to lose some of the labels that they had been given and/ or to have greatly relieved symptoms in a shorter period of time.  The results hold and they have more access to resource networks in their brain as shown by new insights and quicker access to healing in subsequent sessions. I learned that Brainspotting taps into neural networks, stimulates neurogenesis, encourages neuroplasticity and connects with the regulating centers of the brain.

In regard to Integrative Medicine, I am pursuing a PhD in that topic due to my interest in Holistic Health.  It has always been my approach to want to learn natural ways to heal the body, mind and spirit, so all of the topics in my Quantum University curriculum resonated with that.  I integrate polychromatic light therapy, PEMF, Vibroacoustic therapy, Infrared Heat and Sound therapies as natural adjuncts to the healing process.  I also offer ear seeding as I am an Acudetox specialist.  These are all ways to treat an individual’s system and tap into innate healing that does not require talk to be a primary focus.   While we do check in about what a person wants to focus on so that we can focus on a particular area of healing we are also promoting overall healing and stress reduction.

As a Brainspotting Consultant and Trainer, what do you find most rewarding about teaching others this therapeutic modality?

I love teaching this modality to my colleagues.  I also get to bring it to lesser served communities.  I have been able to specialize in working with BIPOC communities and responding to a Humanitarian crisis.  This allowed me to bring in the Social Work skills that are part of my foundation for community building and an anti oppressive approach so as to make a psychotherapeutic modality more accessible and approachable.  The most rewarding part is the personal touch and attunement that happen within the training team and with those who attend the training.  Nothing is better than facilitating a process that leads to healing.  Those whom I teach will have many ripples into the larger community.

What type of services do you offer?

I offer Brainspotting, Vibroacoustic Therapy, Sound Therapies, Polychromatic Light Therapy, Infrared Sauna, Vibration Plate, earseeding & PEMF.  These are all amazing modalities in their own right, but they also make an amazing palette to create individualized Intensives.  I can also support families, groups and teams for wellness days as we have the many therapies set up as stations within my office suite.

How do you integrate Somatic Experiencing (SEP) into your practice, and what benefits do you see for your clients?

Somatic Experiencing is another technique that I utilize.  It can be used in a Standalone manner and/or integrated into Brainspotting.  It also provides access to preverbal trauma and accesses subcortical processing via the brain and nervous system.  This allows what is uncomfortable to move through and to be released from the system so it is no longer held in the nervous system, musculature, or fascia. With SE we are able to titrate the process.  We also pendulate between what is uncomfortable and resource.  This allows the trauma material to become accessible and work it’s way through the system so it becomes less triggering over time.

As a Quantum Health Coach, how do you help individuals align their mental, emotional, and physical well-being?

Mental, emotional, physical and spiritual well being are the core areas of healing in my orientation as a Native American clinician.  With Quantum Health Coaching and my Integrative Medicine background I can focus on each of the domains, provide support to a person’s system where/as needed, and promote an innate healing process.  This will often allow self repair and engage a proactive healing process.  This is preventative medicine and allows me to focus on multiple domains, not just the mind, as the system is much more complex than that.

As someone deeply involved in training and consultancy, what do you believe are the key qualities that make a successful therapist or coach?

Key qualities to make a successful therapy and/or coach are as follows:

1. Compassion, caring and empathy, but not codependence

2. The ability to practice self care enough that one’s own limbic countertransference is minimized and addressed consistently.

3. Dedication and purpose

4. Attunement

5. Being Person/Client centered vs trying to be the expert in the room.  The client is the expert in themselves, we just help them to tap in more deeply into their own system and process for the answers, insight, healing and change.

6,  Willingness to seek consultation in order to grow.
