Your teachings emphasize the concept of pure awareness as the fundamental essence of existence. How did you come to this realization, and how has it transformed your own spiritual journey?

What helped me recognize this intuitive understanding was attending weekly meetings with my mentor for the subject of your True Self, Timothy Conway. I made audio recordings and listened to them repeatedly. There are over 75-hours of completely free recordings available of many of these meetings on my website. See the “My teachers” section.

After listening, meditating and thinking about this for a few months, the ideas that Timothy offered started to sink in. These are not difficult ideas but they are very different from the way we normally think. This is why it takes a while for things to click. Yet the spiritual readiness of the student is also a factor.

Anyway, what I came to understand is this:

You exist fundamentally as the power of sentience, pure awareness, the open capacity for experience. This is a formless Reality that has two capacities: the capacity to perceive and the capacity to create what it perceives. This awareness is the One Awareness, the Divine Awareness. This Awareness was never created yet it is the Source of all of creation. You exist fundamentally as this Source-Awareness, which has no form and therefore cannot be seen, heard, felt or sensed in any way. It is not a thing and has no thing-like qualities that can change or be perceived.

How did my mentor come to this understanding? Through his personal experience of samadhi, but what that is will have to be discussed another time.

As this understanding deepens within you, your sense of personal peace will also deepen.

In your book, “Living the Paradox of Enlightenment,” you delve into the idea that individuals are not beings of any kind but rather pure awareness. Can you elaborate on how embracing this perspective can lead to a deeper understanding of one’s true nature?

The person you appear to be is not what you really are in a fundamental way. But just because this person is not fundamentally what you are does not mean that the person does not exist or that you do not exist or that there is no self, which are all common misunderstandings. It just means that the person is not your fundamental self. Instead, the person you appear to be is your functional self.

Your True Self (the One, Pure, Divine Awareness) is like an invisible Actor who is coming forth as a visible character, the person you appear to be, your functional self.

The One Awareness (God) is arising as everyOne and everything.

The full recognition of your fundamental transcendent nature is what brings liberation and “the peace that passes all understanding.”

What type of services do you offer?

In addition to my many free essays on my website and my book, I offer zoom sessions. One series works through my book over the course of 7 weeks and then starts over. All interaction with me is offered on a donation basis with a suggested donation amount of zero.

But I must point out that I am living with and taking care of my 91-year-old mother who had a brain bleed in mid-October 2023. Because of this, I have cut back my online meetings. Yet if I get enough email requests, perhaps I will be able to establish a weekly time slot, perhaps on a Saturday afternoon Pacific Time.

As a spiritual teacher, how do you guide individuals in recognizing and embodying their true fundamental self as Divine Awareness?

Here is an ancient approach:

1) Hear the truth

2) Ponder the truth

3) Meditate on the truth

These three steps cultivate the unfolding of this profound wisdom within us. They were first enunciated in the Hindu Advaita Vedanta tradition nearly 3,000 years ago. And these steps are not just completed like a checklist: one, two, three, and done. You do them in whatever order they arise and repeat them as many times as necessary. Indeed, this was very helpful for me and I continue to use all three steps.

The pondering of this truth nurtures the cognitive aspect of this wisdom while meditation nurtures its intuitive aspect. Each helps the other unfold like one hand washing the other. When I ponder this truth, I explore it from as many different angles as I can find that are fruitful. There are lots of different thoughts and ideas. When I meditate on it, I dwell on just one or two of these thoughts while knowing that this has always been the truth. My book and free essays will help you with the first two steps and inspire you to work on the third when you put the book down.

For those who are new to the concept of enlightenment, what practical steps or practices would you recommend for beginning their spiritual journey?

One of the first things I look for in a student is a core belief about being worthy of God’s love. This is Seth’s (as channeled by Jane Roberts) primary belief. Being fully open to the flow of God’s grace or love is what waters the garden of your heart and mind, purifying both. False ideas are washed away. As the truth takes hold, the heart is filled with peace and compassion.

It is essential that your heart and mind work together in beautiful harmony. The purer the mind, the more loving the heart.

Many people can benefit from meditations, contemplations and affirmation that will help them feel more love, both from the people and animals around them, from their higher self, and then all the way up to Source-Awareness.

You also write about conscious creation. What can you tell us about that?

Well, this is another area with significant confusion. Many of us have heard the phrase “you create your own reality,” which I first read in the Seth books. In a general sense, you (as a soul) can incarnate in every way imaginable yet you have chosen a certain theme to explore in this life.

What is most helpful now is releasing your unnecessary limiting beliefs about yourself, the world, and how you fit into it. You will then be free to joyfully explore your chosen theme and put your values of kindness and compassion spontaneously into action with an aliveness that cannot be matched!

Your dynamic, in-the-moment thoughts about your ever-changing outer circumstances mix with your chosen core beliefs to create your emotions. These emotions fuel your desire to act and you evaluate your options and pick the action that best fits your core beliefs. All of this leads to a fresh experience and a new set of circumstances. Together, your emotions and circumstances are your experiential reality.

When you understand the creative process, you can start to use it in a conscious way. While it is helpful to use guiding goals, the primary focus is on your inner state of being: being at peace while joyfully exploring the unselfish inspirations that arise within you.

When it comes to conscious creation, it is better to just try it. Follow the simple guidance of using affirmations and visualizations right now rather than waiting until you figure out all the details about how it all works. Seeing it work for you personally will help you understand how it works.
