Empowering Journeys of Transformation: Summer Jean on Agami Karma Therapy

Empowering Journeys of Transformation: Summer Jean on Agami Karma Therapy

In an enlightening interview with MysticMag, Summer Jean unveils the ethos behind Agami Karma Therapy, a sanctuary of transformative wisdom dedicated to holistic healing and personal growth.

Summer’s journey, deeply rooted in the psycho-spiritual facets of existence, has culminated in the creation of a space where individuals embark on profound journeys of self-discovery and healing. Agami Karma Therapy stands as a testament to Summer’s lifelong commitment to bridging the psychological and spiritual dimensions of life.

Through bespoke programs and the integration of diverse healing modalities, Summer from Agami Karma Therapy collaborates with MysticMag to cast a light on the paths of those in pursuit of inner balance and fulfillment.

What inspired the creation of Agami Karma Therapy, and how does it aim to empower individuals?

That’s an excellent question. From a very young age, I felt drawn to the field of psychology. As a child, whenever someone asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up, I’d say, “A birthing doctor.” But as I grew, I realized that my interest wasn’t in physical birth, like the work of my brother, who is an OBGYN. Instead, my fascination lay in the psycho-spiritual aspects of birth and transformation. This realization came as I delved deeper into astrology, and philosophy, and eventually pursued a degree in psychology. It was a natural progression that led me to where I am now, working within the psycho-spiritual realms of healing. Agami Karma Therapy emerged as a culmination of this journey, aiming to empower individuals by navigating the intricate interplay of their psychological and spiritual dimensions.

Can you describe the range of programs offered at Agami Karma Therapy and who they are designed for?

Absolutely. My approach has historically been deeply personal and one-on-one. While I have extensive experience teaching yoga and meditation in group settings, the core of my work lies in individual sessions, especially within integrative psychotherapy.

At Agami Karma Therapy, I offer a variety of programs tailored to the unique needs of each individual. This includes one-on-one sessions that may incorporate the use of psychedelics, with a primary focus on psilocybin. I have a particular affinity for conducting these sessions on an individual basis, as it allows for a deeper and more personalized exploration within the spiritual realm.

In addition to psychedelic integration, our coaching programs are designed for those seeking guidance in specific areas of their lives. This could range from navigating relationship dynamics—whether with a partner, within family systems, or other relational contexts—to addressing personal challenges and aspirations. As an integrative psychotherapist and coach, my role is to meet individuals where they are, understand their needs, and guide them through a tailored program that aligns with their personal growth and healing journey.

Ultimately, whether working with individuals, couples, or families, my focus is always on understanding the unique path of each soul, identifying what needs to be healed or released from the past, and supporting the journey toward where they want to be.

How does Agami Karma Therapy incorporate psychotherapy and life coaching into its practices?

In Agami Karma Therapy, I integrate psychotherapy and life coaching based on the unique needs of each individual who comes to us. Typically, people seek our help when they find themselves out of balance, possibly due to major life changes like a divorce, job loss, identity crises, the loss of a loved one, or experiencing mental health challenges such as depression, anxiety, and panic attacks. I also work with highly creative individuals like artists and musicians who may feel blocked or unable to express their creativity.

As their guide, it’s my privilege to meet clients where they are and help them find their way back to balance. Coaching, in this context, is essentially about asking, “Where do you want to go, and how can we get you there?” It’s a tool that transcends my professional certifications, allowing me to extend my services beyond my geographical location.

Psychotherapy delves into the past, exploring deep-seated wounds, the inner child, and outdated beliefs that no longer serve the individual. It’s about identifying and discarding obsolete versions of oneself. In contrast, coaching focuses on the future—envisioning who the individual wants to be, the life they aspire to lead, and encouraging them to dream big.

The spiritual aspect of our work, which I term ‘spiritual life coaching,’ is about teaching individuals to live in the present moment. This is where they can connect with their source, their spirit, and find a place of calm and stillness. This integration of psychotherapy, life coaching, and spiritual guidance is tailored to meet clients precisely where they are, providing a holistic approach to healing and personal growth.

What unique approaches or modalities does Agami Karma Therapy use to address mental health and personal growth?

I’m deeply passionate about exploring the vast landscape of human experience, which drives my lifelong commitment to learning. In my practice, I blend a variety of modalities to create a holistic approach to mental health and personal growth.

One foundational aspect of my work is Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapy, a powerful method in Western psychology that helps individuals understand and heal their internal parts. Another key modality I employ is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), which is rooted in the understanding that our thoughts and behaviors are interconnected. I enjoy drawing parallels between CBT and Stoicism, integrating the philosophical insights of Stoicism to enhance the therapeutic process and emphasize that we are more than our thoughts and emotions.

In addition to these Western approaches, I incorporate Eastern philosophies and practices into my therapy. As a certified international yoga therapist, I integrate the principles of yoga and Ayurveda, focusing on the balance and harmony of the mind, body, and spirit. Techniques such as Ayres Yoga Nidra and meditation play a significant role in my practice, along with the use of sound frequencies to influence the subtle and etheric bodies.

Furthermore, I explore the therapeutic potential of psychedelics, particularly psilocybin, as a tool for both microdosing and macrodosing. This adds another dimension to my practice, offering clients a broad spectrum of healing opportunities.

The beauty of Agami Karma Therapy lies in its ability to weave together these diverse Western and Eastern modalities, creating a tailored and comprehensive approach to each individual’s journey toward mental health and personal growth.

How do virtual sessions at Agami Karma Therapy maintain effectiveness compared to in-person sessions?

I’m particularly fond of this question because it highlights the global reach and accessibility of virtual therapy. I’ve had the privilege of working with clients from various parts of the world, including the UK, Alaska, California, Texas, and even beyond the ocean. My experience has taught me that virtual sessions are equally special and effective as in-person ones. The key is the ability to be fully present with the person I’m working with, regardless of the physical distance.

Some individuals may initially prefer in-person sessions due to preconceived notions about virtual interactions. However, these are often mental barriers that can be overcome. In my practice, I’ve found no significant difference in the quality of connection or the effectiveness of therapy delivered virtually. Whether guiding a yoga practice or diving deep into the psyche during a session, the essence of my presence and attention remains the same.

I particularly enjoy virtual sessions because they allow me to work from my home office, a space where I feel grounded and at ease. This personal comfort enhances the quality of the sessions for me. Moreover, virtual therapy breaks down geographical barriers, enabling connections with individuals who might otherwise never have the opportunity for such interactions.

The current global shortage of accessible mental health services only strengthens my belief in the potential of virtual therapy. It’s disheartening to know that many people worldwide are struggling to find the support they need. Virtual platforms could bridge this gap, allowing more therapists, particularly from the United States where there might be a surplus, to meet the growing demand for mental health and emotional support services internationally.

Could you share a success story or a transformative experience that a client had through Agami Karma Therapy?

One particular story stands out vividly in my mind, and it’s about a remarkable young woman who came to me three years ago. At that time, she was grappling with profound grief and despair, nearly touching the edges of suicidal thoughts. This wasn’t about her own desire to end her life but stemmed from the devastating loss of her husband to suicide. With two beautiful daughters to live for, she knew she had to find a way through the darkness.

She arrived at my office about six months after her husband’s passing, having been referred by others who thought I could help. She felt utterly overwhelmed by life and the magnitude of her loss. On her first visit, I shared with her a perspective that might have seemed impossible at the time: that eventually, she could come to see this tragic event as something that happened for her, not just to her.

She committed to the healing process, attending sessions twice a week for six to nine months, and then transitioning to weekly sessions. Now, three years later, she reaches out only as needed, which might be every few months, for a “tune-up” or to navigate new challenges.

The transformation she underwent is profound. From the depths of grief and guilt, feeling unable to fulfill her role as a parent, she emerged as someone truly vibrant and full of life. She shares moments of joy and success with me, showing how she and her daughters are thriving. The journey also involved her daughters, who began sessions with me to process their own grief and understand the complex issues surrounding their father’s suicide, including mental health and substance abuse.

Today, she shines brightly, filled with a zest for life that’s infectious. She’s built a successful career in real estate, creating a fulfilling life for herself and her daughters. Her story is a testament to the power of self-discovery and healing, moving from a place of despair to finding joy and empowerment in life. It’s a story of transformation that speaks to the heart of what I aim to achieve at Agami Karma Therapy.
